Bangkok has a handful of small cinemas and screening rooms outside the mall chains, plus rooftops that put a screen up for a few nights at a time. This page lists their screenings in English or with English subtitles: classics, documentaries and festival films, with the time, the price and the official place to book. No Marvel.
Source-check dates appear with each listing · All times are Bangkok time
The calendar below lists dated screenings at Bangkok's small cinemas and screening rooms: the arthouse rooms, a wine bar with a 25-seat screen, an art space with a free Sunday film, and the rooftops that put up a screen for a weekend. Every listing is a film in English or shown with English subtitles. Thai-only screenings and the mall chains' new releases are left out on purpose.
Three of the rooms change their programme every day or every week, so this page cannot list all of it. For those, the guide below says what the room shows and links to its own schedule. When one of them announces something in English worth a trip, it goes in the calendar.
The cinemas
Tap a pin for the room and a link to its entry. Doc Club is the far one, out at Punnawithi.
House Samyan, Samyan Mitrtown
Bangkok's arthouse cinema since 2004 (as House RCA), with three screens on the fifth floor of Samyan Mitrtown since 2019. Time Out put it at number 46 on its 2026 list of the world's best cinemas, the only Thai room on it. It shows a daily mix: festival films and restored classics alongside a few mainstream releases, and it is the Bangkok home of the Irish, Japanese, EU and Hong Kong film festivals and BKKIFF. Each film's page on housesamyan.com states its language and subtitles, so check before you book; a Bergman restoration there comes with Thai and English subtitles, a German release may have Thai subtitles only. Tickets are sold on the site and in the House Cinema app. MRT Sam Yan is under the building.
Doc Club & Friends, Cloud 11
Documentary Club's own 34-seat cinema, on the second floor of Cloud 11 at BTS Punnawithi (exit 6 has a skywalk into the building). It opened in 2026 after the Sala Daeng room lost its screening licence, and it runs the busiest programme of the small rooms: documentaries, restored classics, a monthly cult strand and festival shorts, several screenings a day. Tickets are ฿160, booked on docclubandfriends.com, where each film's page states its subtitles. Open daily 11:00 to midnight with a bar, Drink Club & Friends, at the door. The calendar on this page lists its English-subtitled screenings for the next fortnight or so.
Sala Saneha, Decho Road
A 25-seat cinema in a 70-year-old building off Silom, opened in March 2026, with a wine bar downstairs and a library of Southeast Asian books. The programme changes weekly and mixes Thai classics with English subtitles and recent English-language films with Thai ones. Doors open half an hour before, the film starts on time, and there are no adverts or trailers. Open Thursday to Monday from 18:00. Tickets are on Zipevent; the weekly line-up is posted on Instagram. BTS Chong Nonsi or Sala Daeng, then walk.
Cinema Oasis, Sukhumvit 43
A 48-seat non-profit cinema with a gallery upstairs, founded in 2018 by the filmmakers Ing K and Manit Sriwanichpoom so that films the censors had cut or banned had somewhere to play. It opens Thursday to Sunday and screens in bursts rather than daily. Its programme is announced on its Facebook page and cinemaoasis.com. Nothing dated was published when we checked on 21 October 2026, which is why nothing from it is in the calendar yet. BTS Phrom Phong, exit 3.
Alliance Ciné, Wireless Road
The Alliance Française's cinema on Wireless Road has a repertory programme of French, European and Thai films that is refreshed at the start of each month and runs with English subtitles. Weeknight screenings are at 18:00, with the odd family matinee at 14:00 on a Saturday. Tickets are ฿120, or ฿60 for members, booked on the Alliance's cinema agenda. MRT Lumphini.
The Friese-Greene Club, Sukhumvit 22
A private members' club for people who like films: a nine-seat screening room, a film library and a bar, open Tuesday to Sunday evenings. It shows classics and cult films most nights, usually in a weekly theme. The programme is posted on its Facebook page, and membership details are on fgc.in.th. Members only, which is why its nightly films are not in the calendar.
Lido Connect, Siam Square
The old Lido cinema reopened in 2019 as an arts venue with one of its three halls kept as a screen. In 2026 that screen has been used by festivals, the EU Film Festival in June among them, while the building's own calendar is live music. When a festival books it, the screenings go in the calendar here. BTS Siam.
Screening rooms that are not cinemas
Bangkok Kunsthalle, Charoen Krung
The art space in the old Thai Wattana Panich printing house runs Sunday Cinema, a free film every second Sunday at 17:30 until 20 December 2026, curated by Rosalia Engchuan. Seats are reserved on Ticketmelon and were all taken for the rest of the year when we looked on 21 October, so ask the Kunsthalle about returns. The dates with English subtitles are in the calendar.
The Corner House, Talat Noi
The restored Chai Pattanasilp building on the corner of Charoen Krung 35 and the canal, with a pavilion on its top floor, where it runs film seasons such as House of Films. The Halloween edition is in the calendar. There is also a small cinema inside Such A Small World, the record cafe on the third floor.
Sala Chaloem Thani, Nang Loeng
Thailand's oldest wooden cinema, built in 1918 and reopened in 2025. The Thai Film Archive runs free weekend seasons of Thai classics there a few times a year and uses it for the city's January open-air festival. The films are mostly Thai without subtitles, so they are listed here only when the Archive says otherwise. There is no train nearby; take a taxi to Nang Loeng market.
Prince Theatre Heritage Stay, Charoen Krung
An old Charoen Krung cinema turned hostel that shows films on the original screen in its lobby. The last schedule we found was from 2024, so ask at the hotel before you plan an evening around it.
Rooftops and open air
Skyline Film is the one regular rooftop operator: a Taiwanese outdoor-cinema company that books a Bangkok rooftop for a few nights at a time, with deck chairs, wireless headphones and two films a night at ฿500 each. Its home is the fifth-floor roof of River City Bangkok in Talat Noi, and it has also used Dib Bangkok, the Siamscape roof garden and SAMA Garden at BITEC this year. Its next run is in the calendar; new dates appear on its Ticketmelon page and Facebook.
Golden Hour Cinema Club started in June 2026 on the ninth-floor terrace of the Moxy Bangkok Ratchaprasong hotel: a free, RSVP-only screening of a nostalgic American film on a Thursday evening, roughly monthly. The next date is announced on goldenhourcinema.com and booked on Megatix. Nothing was dated when we checked, so it is not in the calendar yet.
theCOMMONS Thonglor runs a Sunset Film Club on its top yard with Documentary Club in short seasons, and Cloud 11 put on its first outdoor weekend in its rooftop garden in March 2026. Krungthep Klang Plaeng, the city's free open-air film festival, runs on January weekends: the 2026 edition used the plaza outside BACC, Sala Chaloem Thani and the Asvin art space near Nang Loeng. When any of them announces dates with English subtitles, they go in the calendar.
What is not here, and why
The mall chains. Major, SF, Paragon Cineplex, Quartier CineArt, Icon Cineconic, Embassy Diplomat Screens and their siblings show the new releases, and you do not need a listings site to find a Marvel film.
Century The Movie Plaza at On Nut and Victory Monument is a small independent chain rather than a mall multiplex, but it shows the same new releases. It appears here only when a festival books it, as Doc Club's What the Doc festival did in September 2026.
The Thai Film Archive in Salaya has free daily screenings and a film museum, but it is in Nakhon Pathom, about an hour out, and most of its programme is Thai without subtitles.
Closed rooms that older guides still list: Scala in Siam Square (2020), Bangkok Screening Room in Sala Daeng (2021, its space became Doc Club & Pub, which has since moved to Cloud 11) and House RCA (2019, now House Samyan).
Quick answers
Which cinema shows films with English subtitles?
House Samyan and Doc Club & Friends state the subtitles on every film's page, and most of their non-English films carry Thai and English subtitles. Alliance Ciné runs with English subtitles throughout. Sala Saneha's Thai classics have English subtitles; its English-language films have Thai ones.
Where is the cheapest night?
Bangkok Kunsthalle's Sunday Cinema is free, as are the Alliance's festival screenings and Golden Hour's rooftop. Doc Club & Friends is ฿160, Alliance Ciné ฿120 and Skyline Film ฿500 with a drink.
Is there an open-air cinema in Bangkok?
Not a permanent one. Skyline Film puts a screen on the River City roof a few nights a month in the cool season, Golden Hour uses the Moxy terrace about once a month, and the city's free festival runs on January weekends.
