Before your first night
Is the comedy in English?
Almost all of it, yes. Bangkok's scene is largely English-language, with performers from all over. Some nights include Thai-language sets, and those are noted on the show's page.
Do I need a ticket in advance?
For most nights, no, you can pay on the door. Ticketed shows link straight to the seller from their page. Advance prices are usually cheaper.
Is any of it free?
Yes, open mics are often free, sometimes with a minimum drinks order. The condition is listed with the price so there are no surprises.
What time should I arrive?
Doors usually open 30 minutes before the show. Where a venue gives both times, both are on the show page. Turn up at doors if you want a good seat.

Where is the best place to watch comedy in Bangkok?
It depends on the night of the week, and on what you want from it. Each room has a different feel: open mics are loose and cheap, showcases are tighter, and the touring headliners play the bigger rooms. Rather than name a favourite that goes out of date, the listings answer it properly: every regular night, by day of the week, and the rooms currently running comedy. Yes, sorry. We wrote a blog about it here. He's no longer associated with the club in any way. Though he won't give up the email address connected to the YouTube Channel or Google Maps Listing. Thankfully, he's no longer in Thailand.
Are the comedy shows offensive?
Unless you are at a headliner's own show, you will see several acts, and some will be more offensive than others. Most comedians use blue language and mature themes, but very few want to bully or offend the audience. Comedy works best where people can say what they like, because everyone is there for the same night out.
Are the comedians any good? Have I seen them on TV?
Some of them, yes. Bangkok gets touring acts off the UK, Australian and US circuits, several with specials on Netflix or Prime, alongside the local regulars who play here every week. See the comedians for who has played, and the individual show pages for who is on next.
How can I find The Comedy Joint?

Is heckling allowed?
It is not encouraged. Hecklers usually think they are helping. Some comedians work the crowd and invite a bit of back-and-forth, and you can normally tell which ones. The usual pattern: someone thinks of something funny to shout, and it is funny, the first time. Then a few more drinks arrive and it stops being an interjection and starts being an interruption. Trust the comic on stage. If they ask for quiet, give them quiet.
Bookings and requests
We're a big group. Can we get a discount?
Often, yes, but the price is the promoter's to set, not ours, so group rates are arranged directly with whoever runs the night. Each show page names its promoter and links to them. For a company night out, see corporate comedy.
I really want a particular comedian to come to Bangkok. Can you book them?
We list the shows, we don't book them. The people who do are on the promoters page. Tell them, or tag them and the act on social media, and it does genuinely start conversations.
