Going out in Bangkok

Unusual things to do in Bangkok: fifteen nights the itineraries miss

Every week someone on Reddit asks for the weird stuff. This month's biggest thread opened with the medical museum. Here is what is actually on: games with strangers, comedy that isn't stand-up, drag bingo, masked dance and men in tights throwing each other round a ring.

On 6 October someone on r/ThailandTourism asked for unusual things to do in Bangkok and got 110 replies. The top answer opened with the Siriraj Medical Museum, the Amulet Market and the aircraft graveyard. Five people then pointed out that the aircraft graveyard has been gone for years. The same question turns up on r/Bangkok and r/ThailandTourism every week.

We list Bangkok's nights out, so here are the ones that come up when you ask "what's on" instead of "what's famous". Most of them are cheap or free, most are in English, and you can go to every one of them on your own.

Dates, times and prices checked against each organiser's own page between 15 and 28 October 2026. Each name links to our listing, which links to the organiser. Check the latest post before you set off.

Play a game with strangers

Blood on the Clocktower, Mondays

A social-deduction game for a room full of people: a demon is hiding among the players, nobody trusts anybody, and the dead keep talking. The Bangkok Gamers group runs it every Monday at Mariée Café on Banthat Thong Road, near Chulalongkorn. Arrive from 18:00, the beginner tutorial is at 18:30 and games start at 18:45. Entry is free; buy something from the café.

Blitz chess in a British pub, Fridays

Round-robin chess on a three-minute clock at The Royal Oak on Sukhumvit 33/1, from 19:30. Beginners play advanced players and lose quickly, which is the fun. It is free and runs every Friday except the last one of the month, when the group holds a tournament instead.

Backgammon, Saturday afternoons

The Bangkok Backgammon Group meets from 13:00 every Saturday in the Live Lounge upstairs at The Sportsman on Soi 13. All levels, no entry fee published, and a tournament when enough people show up. The organisers answer questions on WhatsApp; the numbers are on the listing.

Comedy that isn't stand-up

Am I the A**hole? Live

A host reads stories from Reddit's Am I the Asshole forum, the room votes, and then everyone argues about the verdict. Bangkok Creative Underground runs it every other Friday from 19:00 at M play, on the third floor of Major Cineplex Ekkamai. Free, in English, and the next one is Friday 6 November. The Sunday afternoon version, Am I Overreacting?, runs 15:00 to 18:00 at Mornii Bakery in Talat Noi on 1 and 15 November.

Improv in a park

Improv Acting in the Park is a two-hour beginners' workshop in Benchasiri Park, by BTS Phrom Phong, built on Whose Line Is It Anyway? games. You take part rather than watch, and English does not need to be your first language. It costs ฿300 for Bangkok Artists Meetup members and ฿600 otherwise. The next dates are 25 November and 16 December, from 18:30.

Open mics on the second floor of a pub

If you want stand-up after all, the cheap way is an open mic, where comics try new material and some of it works. Flat Earth Comedy Night is every Wednesday at 20:00 on the second floor of The Globe in Phra Khanong, ฿200 at the pub. Tuesday Shenanigans is a ฿200 open mic at Arcadia Live, a barcade near BTS Phra Khanong, every Tuesday at 20:00. The rest of the week is in the comedy calendar.

Drag, and drag bingo

The Stranger Bar at the end of Silom Soi 4 has drag shows every night, hosted in Thai and English. Shows start at 21:30, 22:30, 23:50 and 01:00. Entry is ฿460 Sunday to Thursday and ฿500 on Friday and Saturday, and that includes two drink tickets worth ฿400, so it is close to free if you were drinking anyway.

On Wednesdays, House of Heals, the drag bar in the Renaissance hotel at Chit Lom, runs free bingo before its 22:30 show. The bar opens at 21:00. You need to be 20 or over with ID, and the dress code rules out flip-flops, sandals, tank tops and sportswear.

Watch something you won't see at home

Khon, on a weekday afternoon

Khon is Thailand's masked dance drama. Sala Chalermkrung, the old royal theatre in the Old Town, does a 25-minute version of the Hanuman episode with English and Chinese subtitles, Monday to Friday at 13:00, 14:30 and 16:00. Tickets are ฿400 at the theatre, and the show is included in the ฿500 Grand Palace ticket, so keep your palace ticket.

Pro wrestling in Lat Phrao

SETUP Thailand Pro Wrestling holds its year-end show, EP.29 Triumph, on Saturday 14 November at The Circus Studio in G Village, Lat Phrao. Seven matches, wrestlers from across Asia, a 14-man rumble for an IWA Japan belt. Doors at 17:00, bell at 17:30, ฿550. Ringside has sold out.

Films on a rooftop by the river

Skyline Film puts deck chairs and wireless headphones on the fifth-floor roof of River City, with the Chao Phraya behind the screen. Six nights in November (13 to 15 and 20 to 22), two films a night, ฿500 a film with a drink. Trainspotting then Whiplash on the 22nd, if you need a reason. Rain moves your ticket to the next event; there are no refunds. The rest of the city's English-language film nights are on the independent cinema page.

Talk to people about something other than visas

Thinking People's Deep Talk is a free discussion group that votes on its topics, works from short readings and film clips, and expects everyone to talk. The next session is Monday 2 November, 19:00 to 21:00, at Greyhound Cafe in EmQuartier by BTS Phrom Phong. Seats are limited, so RSVP on Meetup.

Walk & Learn Thai is a 2 to 3 km walk around Benchakitti Park every Sunday at 17:00, with Thai phrases taught through games as you go and Thai volunteers invited to teach. It is free. The listing names the park but not a meeting point, so check the Meetup page first.

If none of that is odd enough

The night finder asks five questions and picks a night for you. For the whole list by day, start with this week's comedy, the quiz and game nights and the cabaret, Muay Thai and Khon calendar. If you are going alone, going out alone in Bangkok says which rooms will help you join in.
