Nights out in Bangkok

Seven Bangkok bar crawls you can walk yourself

Bangkok's hosted crawls cover one or two streets. The city has at least seven you can do on foot with no host, no ticket and no van. Here they are, with the stops in order, the walk between them, what the drinks cost, and what Reddit thinks of each one.

If you want someone else to do the planning, Bangkok has hosted crawls most nights of the week and our bar crawls page lists them by night with the price and the meeting point. They are good, and most people on them arrived alone. They also cover two streets, Soi 11 and Khaosan, plus a van. The rest of the city you have to do yourself.

That is easier than it sounds, because Bangkok's drinking happens in clusters. Soi Nana in Chinatown has six good bars within 60 metres of each other. Silom Soi 4 is 150 metres long. Soi 11 runs from a rooftop to a club without crossing a road. The hard part is knowing which street, and in what order, so here are seven routes with the stops, the distances between them, the hours and a rough bill. Reddit's verdict on each street is included, upvotes and all, because the people who live here are blunter than any guide.

Every stop was checked on its own page or its Google Maps listing on 24 October 2026, and the Google rating is given where it helps. Hours change; the ones here are as published that day. Bangkok's drinking age is 20, the clubs check a physical ID, and the BTS and MRT stop around midnight, so the last leg of every route is a Grab.

The seven routes on one map

Each colour is one route, numbered in walking order. Tap a pin for the bar's name and a link to its route. Jazz Happens on Phra Athit has no pin because Google Maps would not settle on a single listing for it.

1. Sukhumvit Soi 11, from a rooftop to a club without crossing a road

This is the one street in Bangkok where the hosted crawls and the self-guided version are the same walk, and Reddit knows it: Honestly if you want to pub crawl, Sukhumvit 11 is probably your best bet. There are great bars all over Bangkok but there's nowhere else except Khao San or maybe Silom (gay area) where you'll be able to do a proper crawl without having to get in a taxi. The whole route is about 600 metres and the only hill is the lift.

  1. Hemingway's, 19 Sukhumvit Soi 11, from 11:00. A colonial-style bar with a garden, big enough to find a table, and the place the Wednesday-to-Sunday crawl meets at 20:30 if you want to watch a group form from the next table. Google 4.3.
  2. La Paca Ya-Dong, 300 m up the soi. A yadong stall, Thai herbal spirit by the shot for 20 to 40 THB. It is the cheapest drink on any route here and the one that starts conversations. Google 4.8.
  3. Havana Social, next door, from 18:00. The entrance is a telephone booth and you need a code to get in; inside is 1940s Cuba, a live band some nights and rum cocktails around 400 THB. Reddit's over-50 thread recommends it with the caveat this attracts a younger crowed but never stopped me going. Google 4.4.
  4. Above Eleven, 100 m on, 33rd floor of Fraser Suites, 17:00 to 02:00. No entry fee, cocktails about 300 THB (drinks are around $9, per Reddit), and the view people cross the city for. One resident calls it a tourist and Pro trap; another, asked for a rooftop that is not a rip-off, says Above 11 and nothing else. Both are right, depending on the night. Google 4.6.
  5. Don't Open The Fridge, 115 m down the soi, from 18:00. A fridge door into a small speakeasy, the drinks are not expensive and pizza from Soho Pizza next door, according to the resident who found it. Google 4.3.
  6. Levels, 6th floor of the Aloft, 22:00 to 03:00. The default Soi 11 club: open-format EDM and hip hop, 300 to 800 THB at the door with a drink, dead before 23:00 and full after midnight. Google 4.2.

The bill. Pub Crawls Thailand's own costing puts a mixed Sukhumvit night at 1,500 to 2,500 THB with one rooftop drink, two bars and a club; the hosted crawl covers the entry and the shots for 699. Reddit's cheaper plan, 17 upvotes: Any bar is cheap if you get drunk at 7/11 and buy ONE drink on the rooftop.

2. Soi Nana and Song Wat, Chinatown's cocktail alley

Three musicians playing Thai instruments against a brick wall at Tep Bar

Not the Nana with the plaza. Soi Nana in Chinatown is a short alley off Charoen Krung near MRT Wat Mangkon, and Time Out says it has gone from 'quiet street' to 'global drinking destination' in just a few years. Reddit says it more plainly. Asked where a woman can drink alone: Soi Nana (Not Nana Plaza) is the best places, lots of cool little speakeasy's, no sleaziness etc. Asked where to go alone at all: Any bar in Chinatown. Friendly bartenders and you're not in Sukhimvit. Win win. The five Soi Nana stops are within 60 metres of each other, which makes this the shortest crawl in the city and the easiest to extend.

  1. Tep Bar, 69 Soi Nana, from 18:00. No sign; follow the music. Thai cocktails with local spirits and Thai rum, and live Thai music from 19:00 on Friday to Sunday. Reddit's pick for a 50-year-old woman drinking alone: Tep Bar in Soi Nana (the one in yaowarat not sukhumvit) has thai classical music and thai style alcohol. Google 4.5.
  2. Teens of Thailand, 76 Soi Nana, 50 m away. The gin bar behind the carved door in the photo at the top, about 80 gin drinks on a list that changes daily, opened in 2015 when the alley was nothing. Google 4.4.
  3. Asia Today, 35 Soi Nana, from 17:00. An unmarked door in a sub-soi, cocktails built on wild-harvested Thai ingredients. The highest-rated bar on any route here, Google 4.8, and the one two separate Reddit threads name first.
  4. Wallflowers, 31 to 33 Soi Nana, a café by day with a bar and rooftop by night, the spot Reddit names for solo women. Google 4.3.
  5. G.O.D., 25 to 27 Soi Nana, 19:00 to 01:30. Stained glass, a door handle that is a cocktail shaker, and drinks made with pork blood and oyster sauce. Time Out calls it the natural final stop on a Soi Nana crawl, for anyone still standing. Google 4.7.
  6. Opium Bar, 422 Vanich 1, a 650 m walk towards the river, from late afternoon most days; its own listings disagree on which day it closes, so check. Two floors above the restaurant Potong in a 120-year-old shophouse, on Asia's 50 Best Bars list, and the bar that ran a free electric tuk-tuk between Chinatown's bars on Friday and Saturday nights. Google 4.7.
  7. Mischa Cheap, 1350 Song Wat Road, 170 m on, 16:00 to 01:00. The Dudesweet team's bar in an old building on the street Reddit nominated as the actual coolest in the city: Song Wat Road - can get to it from the river, street art, cool markets at weekends, little cafes and vintage shops. (26 upvotes.) Google 4.8.

The bill. Cocktails run 300 to 450 THB everywhere on the alley and there is no cover anywhere. A frequent traveller with 80 countries behind him called Bangkok arguably the best cocktail bar city in the whole world on r/Bangkok this month and listed G.O.D. and Opium among his proof. The top reply, 50 upvotes: Yes, but it's the only city in the world where the average price of a cocktail is more than the daily minimum wage. Brown Sugar, the jazz bar at 18 Soi Nana from 17:00, is the sit-down alternative if the speakeasies are full.

3. Khaosan and Rambuttri, the backpacker crawl

Khaosan Road is 400 metres of buckets, bands and a club, and Reddit's view of it has a pattern: people under 25 love it and everyone else did once. Khao San was fun when I was <25 years old. I would recommend Suk if you are >=25. The resident's fix is the street behind it: You'll want the quiet end of Rambuttri; not Khao San Road. Hippie Bar has 80B cocktails, seating on the street, and the music isn't too loud. The route below starts quiet and ends loud, and the whole thing is about 500 metres.

  1. Jazz Happens, Phra Athit Road, 10 minutes from Phra Athit Pier. A jazz bar set up by Silpakorn University lecturers with live sets nightly from about 22:00, so this is where to start if you come early for the sunset at Santi Chai Prakan Park.
  2. Hippie de Bar, 46 Khaosan Road, 16:00 to 02:00. The courtyard bar at the quiet end, with the 80 THB cocktails, street seating and music at a volume you can talk over. Google 4.4.
  3. Bar Darn, 32 Khaosan Road, from 18:00. Time Out's pick for a Khaosan bar that is not a bucket: underwater-themed, with a virtual ocean on the walls. Google 4.5.
  4. Brick Bar, in the Buddy Lodge, 19:00 to 03:00. The live Thai ska and reggae basement, full of Thai students by 23:00 and the one Khaosan venue residents still recommend. Google 4.4.
  5. The Club Khaosan, 123 Khaosan Road, 20:30 to 04:00. The biggest club on the strip, Thai university students as much as backpackers. Google 4.4.

The bill. Beers about 100 THB, buckets from about 120, cocktails 80 at Hippie de Bar and 300 at the rest. Khaosan has no train, so budget 150 to 400 THB for the Grab each way. One thing not to do: Hide Cafe Bar, which a Reddit thread this summer called the best place near Khaosan to mingle in Bangkok without getting stuck in a full-on tourist circus, is marked permanently closed on Google Maps.

4. Thonglor, where the residents drink

Rabbit Hole's long marble bar under a mezzanine, bottles lit on the back wall

Thonglor is Sukhumvit Soi 55, two BTS stops past Asok, and the crowd changes on the platform: Thai and expat residents, cocktail bars that made the Asia's 50 Best list, clubs with table minimums. I love Ekamai as a single male on my 30s. The lack of sex tourism in the area is a huge plus for me, one resident wrote, and another warned that the clubs here are all seated, it's not normal to randomly join a table. Treat it as a bar route, not a club route, and expect one taxi: the stops are 400 metres apart and the rooftop is a kilometre back down the soi.

  1. Thaipioka, ground floor of the Salil Hotel, Thonglor Soi 1, 19:00 to 02:00. Standing room, a live DJ and tropical drinks; one nightlife guide calls it the best cocktails in the city. Google 4.3.
  2. Rabbit Hole, 125 Thonglor Road between Soi 5 and 7, 380 m up, from 19:00. A wooden door with a small carved rabbit head, three floors of exposed brick and a marble bar, ranked 34th in Asia in 2019. Reddit's note, six upvotes: Rabbit Hole has flying taiwanese cockroaches in the back avoid. Sit at the bar. Google 4.5.
  3. #FindTheLockerRoom, 406 Thonglor, 415 m on, 18:00 to 01:45. A speakeasy behind a locker, opened in 2017 by a group of the city's bartenders and still one of its best rooms. Google 4.6.
  4. Bluebird Jazz Bar, 355/3 Thonglor, from 17:00. Live jazz and the bar one woman on Reddit named for drinking alone in Thonglor. Google 4.6.
  5. Octave, 45th to 49th floor of the Marriott at Sukhumvit 57, from 17:00, a short taxi back towards the BTS. A 360-degree rooftop with free entry and cocktails about 350 to 550 THB. Reddit's rooftop value thread: Octave, above the Marriott... free entry and reasonably priced drinks. Google 4.4.

The bill. Cocktails 350 to 600 THB. Dress for it; the rooftop and the clubs refuse shorts and sandals. If you want to keep going, Modern-Day Culture is a vinyl listening bar on the fourth floor at Ekkamai Soi 63 from 18:00, Google 4.8, and a super chill vinyl listening bar... you definitely wont get harassed.

5. Silom Soi 4 and Soi 2, the gay strip

One of Circus Soi 4's three drag shows a night. Photo: Circus Soi 4.

Silom Soi 4 is the one lane in Bangkok built for a crawl: bars on both sides, tables spilling into the road, three drag shows a night at one of them, and everyone welcome, which is how the people who go describe it. Silom 4 is the place to start, says every answer to the question. Soi 2, a few minutes along Silom Road, is where the strip goes to dance.

  1. Circus Soi 4, 15 Silom Soi 4, from 17:00. The old Telephone Pub, renamed, with the best outdoor tables on the soi for watching the parade and three drag shows every night. Google 3.3, which says more about the service than the show.
  2. The Stranger Bar, 50 m along, from 17:00 to 01:00. Bills itself as the house of drag; owned by a Drag Race Thailand contestant, with queens on every night of the week and an entry fee for the show. Google 4.6.
  3. The Balcony, 84 to 88 Silom Soi 4, 17:30 to 02:00. The terrace bar with the relaxed international crowd, where the lane watches itself go by. Google 4.1.
  4. HORN, 4th floor at 71 to 73 Silom Soi 4, Thursday to Saturday 22:00 to 03:00. Time Out says it has rebranded itself as something closer to a Berlin basement than a standard Bangkok bar: techno, no hits. Google 4.8.
  5. DJ Station, Silom Soi 2, 300 m east, 21:00 to 03:00 or later. Three floors, a midnight drag show, and if you haven't been, you haven't really done gay Bangkok, in Time Out's words. Google 4.3.

The bill. Beer 90 to 140 THB, cocktails about 300, and happy hours at most bars early in the evening. Reddit's answer on whether women are welcome at the gay bars is the one you would hope for: There is less distinction in Thailand, gays are generally welcome and seen across all bars and clubs. For lesbian bars the city is thinner; Time Out's list names Goddess Bar on Phahonyothin, Tuff Bar on Rama 4 and WO Bar off Pridi Banomyong 26.

6. Banthat Thong, the food street that grew bars

Drinkers at the bar and in leather armchairs at Beer Pradith, the tap list chalked on the wall behind
Beer Pradith's 24 taps on Banthat Thong. Photo: Beer Pradith.

Banthat Thong Road runs behind Chulalongkorn University from MRT Hua Lamphong towards Siam, and it is the street Bangkok argues about. Time Out says it has become one of Bangkok's busiest food-and-drink strips. Reddit, 30 upvotes: Banthat Thong isn't even hype, it's like manufactured. And three upvotes: More chinese wanna be influencers in Banthat Thong than China itself. Go anyway, eat first, and drink Thai beer, because the bars here are the only ones on this list that pour it on tap.

  1. Dice Cup, Chula Soi 5, from 11:00. A board game café at the top of the strip, which is the right way to start a night with people you do not know well. Google 4.7.
  2. Tortuga, 1612 Banthat Thong, 280 m down, 16:00 to 02:00. Half board game bar, half art bar, open late, and on our board game cafés list. Google 4.5.
  3. Beer Pradith, 2030 Banthat Thong, 560 m on, 17:00 to 02:00. Twenty-four taps, all Thai craft brewers, a tasting flight if you cannot choose, free popcorn with refills, live music Thursday to Saturday. Time Out calls it a strong place to finish the crawl. Google 4.7.
  4. Philtration, 2 Kasemsan Soi 3, a 1.5 km taxi or a 20-minute walk towards National Stadium, 19:00 to 02:00. A century-old family house designed by the architects of the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall, now a speakeasy, and the finish if you want one cocktail after the beer. Google 4.7.

The bill. Beer Pradith prices its taps on the board and changes them with the beer; Philtration's cocktails sit in the 300 to 450 THB band the city's speakeasies share. The strip is at its best on a weeknight. When Sode Market takes over the walking street at Chula Soi 5 in November, it fills to the kerb.

7. Ari, the quiet one

A band playing at Bar Lookkrung Ari, a bare bulb over the room and spirits on a shelf, the crowd with arms raised
Bar Lookkrung Ari's live luk krung night. Photo: Bar Lookkrung Ari.

Ari is three BTS stops north of Victory Monument and the neighbourhood Reddit nominates when it is tired of Sukhumvit: My vote goes to Pradiphat road (17 upvotes), and Check out Ari area at the end of every thread about where to live. It is a café district by day. By night it has a handful of bars worth a walk, spread out enough that this is the longest route here at about 2 kilometres, so wear shoes.

  1. O'Glee, 18/1 Soi Ari 1, from 17:00. An Irish pub with a rotating tap list, for a first pint by the station. Google 4.6.
  2. Bar Lookkrung Ari, 127 Samsen Nai, 600 m west, from 17:00. Time Out's one thing to do in Ari: live bands playing luk krung, the Thai pop of the 1950s and 60s, with the regulars singing along on Fridays and Saturdays, and cocktails built on kaffir lime, pomelo and winter melon. Google 4.9, the highest on this page.
  3. The Key Room No.72, in the Josh Hotel at 19/2 Soi Ari 4, 800 m on, 18:00 to 01:00. A hotel speakeasy that made Time Out's speakeasy list this year. Google 4.5.
  4. Khaoya Archive, 2nd floor of No Bar, 128/10 Phahonyothin, 660 m back towards the station, Wednesday to Sunday 19:00 to 01:00. A pantry of Thai ingredients turned into classic cocktails; ask for the story of the day. Google 4.8.

The bill. Cocktails 300 to 450 THB. Dumbo, the Ari rooftop that Reddit still recommends in rooftop threads, is marked permanently closed, so do not add it.

What applies to all seven

ID. The drinking age is 20 and the clubs, rooftops and speakeasies check a physical passport or licence. The Soi 11 operators warn that a photo on your phone may be refused at the club door.

Shoes. Thonglor, the rooftops and the Soi 11 clubs turn away flip-flops, vests and sportswear. Chinatown, Khaosan and Silom Soi 4 do not care.

Trains. The BTS and MRT stop around midnight. Every route above ends later than that, so plan the Grab home from the last stop, 100 to 250 THB across the centre, more from Khaosan.

Thais do not bar hop. Thais go out in groups of people, to a club or bar restaurant beer house, they don't bar hop and the clubs are all seated, it's not normal to randomly join a table. The crawl is a foreign habit, which is why the streets that suit it are the ones with a foreign or mixed crowd. The Thai-run exceptions on these routes, Tep Bar, Bar Lookkrung and Beer Pradith, are the ones where you sit down and stay.

The cocktail argument. Reddit had it out this month. For: Bangkok is arguably the best cocktail bar city in the whole world. Against, 47 upvotes: Bangkok bars are all IG friendly, nice venues, fun themes. But I find the actual cocktails lacking. They always look good but the taste is always meh and the prices tend to be on the higher side. The routes above lean towards the bars that both sides named.

And if seven routes is six too many to plan, the hosted crawls run on Soi 11 five nights a week, behind Khaosan on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and by van on the weekends, with the entry and the first drinks paid and a host doing the introductions.
