Half of Bangkok's comedy listings are out of date

On 25 August 2026 we opened the comedy page at expatsinbangkok.com, took every listing on it, and checked each one against our own show records and against what the people running these nights told us. Eleven listings. Five of them sent you to a room that had closed or a night that had moved. We looked again on 4 September 2026. The page is down to ten listings, the same five are still on it, and not one of them has been corrected. That is half the page.
Not wrong in an interesting way, either. Every single error pointed the same direction: towards a room that has closed, or a night that has moved somewhere else. Not one of their mistakes was a show they had missed.
Two years out of date, with a phone number on it
RAW Comedy Open Mic at The Sportsman is listed as happeningevery Wednesday. It has a phone number on it.
That night closed two years ago. The room it ran in, the second floor Live Lounge, stopped hosting comedy before that. If you are a visitor who lands in Bangkok, searches for comedy, finds that page and goes, you will arrive at a sports bar on a Wednesday and there will be no show, because there has not been one since 2024.
They list Level Up at the venue it left in April
The Level Up Comedy Club appeared twice on the page in August. Once at P.J. O'Brien's, once at Gaston Bistro & Bar in the Grand Hyatt Erawan. Both were described as happening every Tuesday.
Both could not be true. Level Up ran at P.J. O'Brien's for three years and finished there on 7 April 2026. Gaston is where it runs now. So a reader had a coin-flip chance of crossing Bangkok on a Tuesday night to a room the night had left four months earlier.
Then the coin landed the wrong way up. The Gaston listing carried a printed end date of 25 August and came off the page when it passed. The P.J. O'Brien's one has no end date on it, so it stayed. Today the page lists Level Up at one venue only, and it is the wrong one. Nothing on it suggests otherwise.
All five, with the date each one stopped being true
| What they list | When it actually ended | Out of date by |
|---|---|---|
| RAW Comedy Open Mic @ The Sportsman | 2024 | ~2 years |
| Wednesday stand-up at Whisgars Soi 23 | 1 April 2026 | ~5 months |
| The Level Up Comedy Club @ P.J. O'Brien's | 7 April 2026, after three years there | ~5 months |
| The Giggling Giraffe @ The Golden Giraffe | Late July 2026, when the room closed | ~6 weeks |
| Soi Funny Comedy Club at AVVE | 26 July 2026, when the room closed | ~6 weeks |
In the ten days between our two counts the page did change, and it is worth being exact about how. Three listings came off it: Level Up at Gaston, the Wednesday night at Upper Deck, and Dr Jason Leong at the Lancaster. All three were entries we had marked correct. Two carried printed end dates that simply passed, and the third was a one-off show whose date went by. Two new shows went up in their place, both real, both of which we also list.
So the page is not abandoned. Somebody is adding shows to it. What nobody is doing is going back to the entries that have no end date on them, and those are precisely the five that are wrong. A dated listing expires by itself. A weekly night that has closed will sit there for as long as it takes somebody to notice, which so far is two years.
They have Jimmy Carr, but the wrong night
Jimmy Carr plays Bangkok twice in January 2027. The page lists one date: Saturday 16 January at Muangthai Rachadalai Theatre. That show is sold out.
A second night was added at UOB Live on Sunday 17 January, and that is the one you can still buy a ticket for. It is not on their page. Both are on ours, and ours says which is which.
Why listings rot
Listings rot. That is the nature of them. A comedy night is a perishable thing: rooms close, promoters pause, a Tuesday night moves across the city, and a page written in January is quietly wrong by April unless somebody goes back and changes it.
So the work is not writing the listing. The work is going back, over and over, and checking whether it is still true: asking the promoter, noticing that a room has gone quiet, taking a night down when it stops running. It is unglamorous and it never finishes.
It is what we do here. Soi Funny paused, so we said so and took the dates down. The AVVE room shut and we recorded it. When The Golden Giraffe closed, its page stopped claiming shows in April 2027. Nobody made us do any of it. A listing that sends someone across Bangkok to a locked door is worse than no listing at all.
See what is actually on
Every show on this site has a date, a room and a price we have checked, and a “last verified” standard behind it. Start with what is on tonight, or browse everything coming up.
Checked on 25 August 2026, re-counted on 4 September 2026. If they fix any of this, we will update the page and say so. If we have something wrong, or we are missing your night, tell us and we will fix it.
