About the night
Chiang Mai's open mic runs at The Moat House, the rooftop bar and sports venue on Mun Mueang Road looking out over the old city moat and Tha Phae Gate. It is hosted by Ian Harvey Stone and it is free to walk in, which makes it the easiest room in the north of Thailand to see stand-up in, or to try five minutes of it yourself.
The bill is a mix of comics who live in Chiang Mai and whoever is passing through. The city sits on the route between Bangkok and the northern loop, so touring acts working Thailand often use this night to keep sharp between paid dates, and the standard on any given week depends on who happens to be in town.
It runs every week, and it is Ian Harvey Stone's night rather than the venue's. The Moat House lists stand-up on Thursdays at 20:00 on its own site, alongside the language exchange, acoustic rooftop and sports nights that fill the rest of its week.
