About the night
A one-day workshop rather than a show: you spend the day working on your own true story instead of watching other people tell theirs. It runs 10am to 5pm with an hour for lunch at 1pm, through guided exercises and group work aimed at finding the heart of a real event and getting it to land out loud.
No storytelling or performance experience is needed, and the organisers are explicit that English does not have to be your first language — they say some of the best stories at past workshops and shows have come from people who had never told a story in public before, in any language. Several past attendees have gone on to perform at the BKK Stories Show itself.
It is led by Kevin Allison and Jonathan Englander. Allison created the true-story podcast RISK!, which he has run for seventeen years, has coached storytellers for over two decades, and recently moved to Bangkok and joined the BKK Stories Show. Englander founded the show and has spent more than ten years coaching both Thai and farang storytellers.
